Technologist Talk: Kathy Reid on Mozilla Common Voice
Mar 18

Join Mozilla’s Research & Development Lead Kathy Reid for a lunchtime presentation at SLV on Mozilla Common Voice and the Mozilla Data Collective, exploring how libraries can champion linguistic diversity, inclusion and equity.

Discover the linguistic variation already captured and hear how language communities are using the Common Voice API to gather speech data through interfaces that are more culturally aligned.

Kathy will also outline how the Mozilla Data Collective seeks to build a fair, sustainable model for data stewardship – supporting organisations, including GLAMs (galleries, libraries, archives and museums), to generate revenue from their collections while protecting them from indiscriminate scraping.

This talk is perfect for library workers or anyone interested in ethical AI, digital collections and community-led language projects.
